Overview

Blepharoplasty can improve the appearance of droopy or puffy eyelids. When drooping upper eyelid skin blocks vision, it can also improve the field of vision.

Who it may help

  • People with loose, sagging upper eyelid skin
  • People with bags under the eyes
  • People whose drooping eyelids block their side vision

What to expect

The surgery is usually done under local anaesthesia with sedation. Incisions are placed in the natural creases of the eyelids so that scars are hard to see.

Recovery and risks

Bruising and swelling usually settle within two weeks. Possible risks include dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes, infection, bleeding and, rarely, changes in vision.

When to see a doctor

Book a consultation with a plastic surgeon to discuss your goals. After surgery, seek urgent care for severe eye pain, loss of vision or increasing swelling.
