Overview
Entropion usually affects the lower eyelid in older adults. If not treated, the rubbing can damage the cornea.
Symptoms
- Feeling that something is in the eye
- Red, watery or irritated eye
- Sensitivity to light
- Discharge and crusting
Causes and risk factors
Common causes are age-related loosening of the eyelid, scarring from infection or injury, and spasms of the eyelid muscle.
Diagnosis
A doctor diagnoses it by examining the eyelid.
Treatment
Lubricating drops and taping can give temporary relief. Surgery to correct the eyelid position is usually needed.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor if you have an eyelid turning inwards or constant eye irritation. Seek urgent care for eye pain or reduced vision.
