Overview
Ewing's sarcoma most often occurs in the legs, pelvis, ribs or arms. Treatment combines chemotherapy, surgery and radiotherapy.
Symptoms
- Bone pain that gets worse over time, often at night
- Swelling or a lump
- Fever and tiredness
- A bone fracture after minor injury
Causes and risk factors
It is caused by a genetic change in the tumour cells, not inherited. It is most common between the ages of 10 and 20.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis uses X-rays, MRI, CT or PET scans, and a biopsy.
Treatment
Treatment usually involves chemotherapy before and after surgery or radiotherapy to remove or destroy the tumour.
