Overview
Hodgkin's lymphoma is most common in young adults and older people. It is one of the most curable cancers with modern treatment.
Symptoms
- A painless swelling in the neck, armpit or groin
- Fever and night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Itching
- Tiredness
- Cough or breathlessness if it affects the chest
Causes and risk factors
The cause is unknown. Risk factors include past Epstein-Barr virus infection, a weak immune system and family history.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made by a lymph node biopsy. CT or PET scans and blood tests show the stage.
Treatment
Treatment usually involves chemotherapy, sometimes with radiotherapy. Newer targeted and immune treatments are used in some cases.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor for a lump that lasts more than a few weeks, night sweats, fever or weight loss.
