Overview
Hyperopia occurs when the eye focuses light behind the retina. Many children are mildly long-sighted and grow out of it. It is easily corrected.
Symptoms
- Blurry vision when reading or doing close work
- Eye strain and tired eyes
- Headaches after close work
- Squinting
- A turned eye in some children
Causes and risk factors
It happens when the eye is shorter than normal or the cornea is flatter. It often runs in families.
Diagnosis
An eye test by an optometrist or eye specialist confirms it.
Treatment
Treatment includes glasses or contact lenses. Laser eye surgery may be an option for some adults.
