Overview
There are many types of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, some slow-growing and some fast-growing. Treatment is tailored to the type and stage.
Symptoms
- Painless swollen lymph nodes in the neck, armpit or groin
- Fever and night sweats
- Unexplained weight loss
- Tiredness
- Abdominal swelling or pain
- Cough or breathlessness
Causes and risk factors
Risk factors include older age, a weak immune system, HIV, some infections such as H. pylori and hepatitis C, and autoimmune diseases.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made by biopsy of a lymph node or affected tissue. Scans, blood tests and bone marrow tests show the stage.
Treatment
Treatment may include monitoring for slow-growing types, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy and stem cell transplant.

See a doctor for a lump that lasts more than a few weeks, night sweats, fever or weight loss.
