Overview
Ovarian cancer is more common after menopause. Paying attention to persistent symptoms helps with earlier diagnosis.
Symptoms
- Persistent bloating
- Pelvic or abdominal pain
- Feeling full quickly
- Needing to pass urine often
- Change in bowel habits
- Unexplained weight loss or tiredness
Causes and risk factors
Risk factors include older age, family history of ovarian or breast cancer, BRCA gene changes, endometriosis and never having been pregnant.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis uses pelvic examination, ultrasound, CA-125 blood tests, CT scans and biopsy.
Treatment
Treatment usually involves surgery and chemotherapy. Targeted therapies are used in some cases.
