Overview
Penile cancer is rare and highly treatable when found early.
Symptoms
- A sore, lump or growth on the penis
- A change in skin colour or thickness
- Bleeding or foul-smelling discharge under the foreskin
- Swelling of the lymph nodes in the groin
Causes and risk factors
Risk factors include HPV infection, smoking, poor hygiene under the foreskin, phimosis and older age.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis is made by examination and biopsy. Scans check for spread.
Treatment
Treatment includes surgery, creams or laser for early lesions, radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

See a doctor for any sore, lump or change on the penis that lasts more than a few weeks.
