Overview
Presbyopia is a normal part of ageing and affects nearly everyone. It is easily corrected.
Symptoms
- Difficulty reading small print
- Holding reading material further away
- Eye strain and headaches after close work
- Needing brighter light to read
Causes and risk factors
It is caused by the natural lens of the eye becoming less flexible with age.
Diagnosis
An eye test confirms it.
Treatment
Treatment includes reading glasses, bifocals, varifocal lenses, contact lenses and, for some people, surgery.
When to see a doctor
See an eye specialist if you have difficulty with close vision. Regular eye checks after 40 also help detect glaucoma. KIH can guide you to an eye specialist.
