Causes and risk factors
It runs in families. Triggers include stress, infections, injury to the skin, smoking, alcohol and some medicines.
Diagnosis
A doctor diagnoses it by examining the skin.
Treatment
Treatment includes creams, phototherapy and tablet or injectable medicines for more severe psoriasis.
When to see a doctor
See a doctor if patches are widespread, painful or affecting your life, or if you have joint pain.
