Overview
Pyloric stenosis usually appears between two and eight weeks of age. A simple operation cures it.
Signs
- Forceful (projectile) vomiting after feeds
- Hunger after vomiting
- Weight loss or poor weight gain
- Fewer wet nappies and dehydration
- Constipation
Causes and risk factors
It is more common in first-born boys and when there is a family history.
Diagnosis
Diagnosis uses ultrasound of the abdomen and blood tests.
Treatment
Treatment is a short operation (pyloromyotomy) after correcting dehydration.
