Overview
Acute medical care covers the rapid assessment and treatment of adults with sudden illness, such as severe infections, breathing problems, chest pain, high fevers or complications of long-term conditions. The aim is to diagnose quickly, start treatment and decide on the safest place for ongoing care.
Who it may help
- People with severe infections such as pneumonia, dengue or typhoid
- People with sudden worsening of diabetes, heart, lung or kidney disease
- Older adults who become confused, weak or fall
- People needing close monitoring or intravenous treatment
What the service includes
Assessment by physicians, blood tests and imaging, intravenous fluids and medicines, oxygen, monitoring and coordination with specialists and intensive care when needed.
What to expect
After assessment, you may be treated and sent home with a follow-up plan or admitted to a ward. A clear discharge plan explains medicines, warning signs and follow-up.
