Overview
The airway can be narrowed by scarring, birth differences, growths or weakness of its walls. Specialist teams assess the airway with endoscopes and plan treatment to improve breathing.
Who it may help
- Children with noisy breathing (stridor)
- People with narrowing after a breathing tube or tracheostomy
- People with growths in the voice box or windpipe
- People with severe sleep-related breathing problems
Treatment options
Options include endoscopic dilation, laser treatment, removal of growths, airway reconstruction and tracheostomy care.
What to expect
Assessment usually includes endoscopy under anaesthesia. Treatment may involve more than one procedure.
At KIH
KIH's ENT and pulmonology teams can assess airway problems and arrange specialised surgery when needed.
