Overview

Benign blood disorders are common and include iron deficiency anaemia, thalassaemia, sickle cell disease, low platelets, bleeding disorders and blood clots. Many can be well controlled with the right diagnosis and treatment.

Who it may help

  • People with anaemia or unexplained tiredness and paleness
  • People with thalassaemia or other inherited blood conditions
  • People who bruise or bleed easily
  • People with blood clots or abnormal blood counts

What the service includes

Blood tests and, when needed, bone marrow tests, iron and vitamin replacement, blood transfusions, iron chelation, medicines for bleeding or clotting disorders, and family screening and counselling.

What to expect

Your doctor will review your history and test results, explain the cause and agree a treatment plan with regular follow-up.
