Overview

Teenagers and young adults with cancer have different medical, emotional and social needs from younger children and older adults. Age-appropriate care helps them stay connected with education, friends and family while getting the best treatment.

Who it may help

  • Young people with leukaemia or lymphoma
  • Young people with bone or soft tissue sarcomas
  • Young people with brain, testicular or other cancers

What the service includes

Diagnosis and treatment planning, chemotherapy and coordination with surgery and radiotherapy, fertility preservation advice, psychological support, help with schooling and long-term follow-up.

What to expect

A team explains the diagnosis and treatment options in a way young people understand and involves them in decisions. Families are supported throughout treatment and recovery.

At KIH

KIH's haematology and oncology team cares for young people with cancer and can arrange referral when specialised treatment is needed.
