Overview
Cardiac rehabilitation helps you recover, regain confidence and reduce the risk of future heart problems. It combines supervised exercise with advice on medicines, diet, stopping smoking and managing stress.
Who it may help
- People recovering from a heart attack
- People who have had angioplasty, bypass surgery or valve surgery
- People living with heart failure or angina
What the programme includes
- Exercise sessions tailored to your fitness and heart condition
- Education about heart health, medicines and warning symptoms
- Advice on healthy eating and weight management
- Support to stop smoking and to manage stress, anxiety or low mood
What to expect
An assessment is done before you start, so that the programme is safe for you. Programmes usually run for several weeks. Continuing regular activity afterwards helps keep the benefits.
