Overview
Some chemotherapy can irritate small veins. A port, PICC line or tunnelled catheter allows treatment and blood tests without repeated needle sticks.
Why it is done
- Chemotherapy given over many months
- Medicines that damage small veins
- Difficult veins for repeated blood tests
Before the procedure
Your team explains the type of device. Blood tests check clotting.
During and after the procedure
