Overview
Interstitial lung disease includes many conditions that cause inflammation or scarring of the lungs. Accurate diagnosis is important because treatment differs between types.
Who it may help
- People with breathlessness or a dry cough that lasts
- People with lung scarring seen on a scan
- People with rheumatoid arthritis or other autoimmune diseases affecting the lungs
- People exposed to dusts, birds or moulds
What the service includes
High-resolution CT, lung function tests, bronchoscopy, blood tests for autoimmune disease, anti-inflammatory or anti-fibrotic medicines, oxygen assessment and pulmonary rehabilitation.
What to expect
Diagnosis may need several tests and review by more than one specialist. Regular follow-up tracks lung function.
