Overview
Breastfeeding is natural but does not always come easily. A lactation consultant helps mothers overcome difficulties and feed their babies confidently.
Who it may help
- Mothers with sore nipples or difficulty latching
- Mothers worried about milk supply
- Babies who feed poorly or do not gain weight
- Mothers of premature babies or twins
- Mothers returning to work who want to continue breastfeeding
What the service includes
Observation of a feed, help with positioning and latch, advice on milk supply and expressing, management of breast engorgement and mastitis, and support for special situations.
What to expect
Sessions can start in hospital after birth and continue afterwards. Bring your baby to the appointment if possible.
