Overview
Leukaemia treatment depends on the type, whether it is acute or chronic, and the person's age and health. Many types can be controlled long term, and some can be cured.
Who it may help
- People newly diagnosed with leukaemia
- People with abnormal blood counts needing assessment
- People with chronic leukaemia needing long-term care
Treatment options
Treatment may include chemotherapy, targeted therapy such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, infection prevention and stem cell transplant.
What to expect
Diagnosis uses blood tests and bone marrow tests. Treatment may need hospital stays and close monitoring for infection.
At KIH
KIH's haematology and oncology team diagnoses and treats leukaemia and can refer for stem cell transplant when needed.
