Overview
Lymphoedema cannot usually be cured, but specialist care can reduce swelling, prevent infections and improve comfort and movement.
Who it may help
- People with arm or leg swelling after cancer treatment
- People born with lymphatic problems
- People with swelling after infections or injury
- People with repeated cellulitis in a swollen limb
What the service includes
Measurement of the limb, skin care, compression bandaging and garments, manual lymphatic drainage massage, exercise and, for some people, surgery.
What to expect
Treatment often starts with an intensive phase and continues with daily self-care. Compression garments need to be worn regularly.
