Overview
Most glaucoma is treated first with eye drops that lower pressure inside the eye. Using them every day as prescribed is essential to prevent vision loss.
Who it may help
- People with open-angle glaucoma
- People with high eye pressure at risk of glaucoma
- People after laser or surgery who still need pressure control
Treatment options
Several types of eye drops lower pressure by reducing fluid production or improving drainage. Tablets may be used for a short time. Laser treatment may be added if drops are not enough.
What to expect
Regular checks measure eye pressure, the optic nerve and visual field. Tell your doctor about side effects, as other drops can be tried.
