Overview

Neuromuscular disorders include muscular dystrophies, myasthenia gravis, motor neurone disease and peripheral neuropathies. Many are long-term, and coordinated care helps people stay active and independent.

Who it may help

  • People with muscle weakness or wasting
  • People with numbness, tingling or nerve pain
  • People with drooping eyelids or double vision that varies
  • Children with delayed motor milestones

What the service includes

Nerve conduction studies and EMG, blood tests, genetic testing, medicines, physiotherapy, breathing and swallowing assessment and equipment advice.

What to expect

Diagnosis may take several tests. Regular follow-up monitors strength, breathing and daily function.
