Overview
Many children's operations, such as hernia repair, circumcision and tongue tie release, can be done as day cases, letting children recover at home with their families.
Who it may help
- Children having hernia or hydrocele repair
- Children with undescended testicles
- Children needing minor procedures
- Healthy children without complex conditions
Before the surgery
You will be told when your child must stop eating and drinking. Bring a favourite toy and comfortable clothes.
On the day
Your child has the operation and recovers in the day unit. Once awake, comfortable and drinking, they can go home.
After the surgery
Give pain relief as advised and watch for fever, bleeding or vomiting.
