Overview
Children can have kidney problems from birth or develop them later, often after infections or as part of other conditions. Early diagnosis protects kidney function as the child grows.
Who it may help
- Children with swollen kidneys on a pregnancy scan
- Children with repeated urinary infections
- Children with nephrotic syndrome or blood or protein in the urine
- Children with high blood pressure or reduced kidney function
What the service includes
Urine and blood tests, kidney ultrasound and other scans, kidney biopsy when needed, medicines, diet advice and dialysis for children with kidney failure.
What to expect
Your child's growth, blood pressure and urine are checked at each visit. Many conditions need long-term follow-up into adulthood.
At KIH
KIH's nephrology team can assess children with kidney and urinary problems and arrange specialised care when needed.
