Overview
During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens is replaced with an artificial lens. Premium lenses can correct astigmatism or provide clear vision at more than one distance.
Who it may help
- People having cataract surgery who want less dependence on glasses
- People with astigmatism (toric lenses)
- People wanting near and distance vision (multifocal or extended-depth lenses)
Before the surgery
Detailed eye measurements are taken. Your eye specialist will explain which lens suits your eyes and lifestyle.
During and after the surgery
Cataract surgery is usually done under local anaesthesia as a day procedure. Vision improves within days to weeks.
Risks
Risks include glare or haloes, infection, inflammation and, rarely, the need to exchange the lens.
