Overview

Psychotherapy helps young people understand and manage their feelings and behaviour. The approach is adapted to the child's age, using play, art or conversation, and often involves parents.

Who it may help

  • Children with anxiety, fears or school refusal
  • Young people with low mood or self-harm
  • Children affected by trauma, loss or family difficulties
  • Children with behaviour or relationship problems

Types of therapy

Approaches include cognitive behavioural therapy, play therapy, family therapy and parenting support.

What to expect

Sessions are usually weekly. The therapist works with the child and family to set goals and reviews progress regularly. Information is kept confidential except where safety is at risk.

At KIH
