Overview

Total skin electron beam therapy uses electrons, which treat only the outer layers of the skin, to treat skin lymphoma that covers large areas of the body.

Why it is done

  • Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (mycosis fungoides) with widespread skin involvement
  • Skin disease that has not responded to other treatments

Before treatment

Planning ensures an even dose to the whole skin. Eyes and nails may be shielded.

During treatment

You stand in different positions during each session. Treatment is given over several weeks.

Risks

Side effects include skin redness, dryness, hair and nail loss and temporary loss of sweating.

At KIH

KIH's oncology team can assess skin lymphoma and guide you to a centre offering this treatment.
