Overview
Trauma care brings together emergency doctors, surgeons, orthopaedic and neuro surgeons and intensive care teams to assess and treat injuries quickly. The first hour after a serious injury is critical.
Who it may help
- People injured in road accidents or falls
- People with head, chest, abdominal or limb injuries
- People with fractures, deep wounds or burns
- People with multiple injuries
What the service includes
Rapid assessment and resuscitation, imaging such as X-rays and CT scans, wound care, fracture management, emergency surgery and admission for monitoring or intensive care.
What to expect
The team first checks breathing, circulation and serious bleeding, then examines for all injuries. Treatment is prioritised by severity. Rehabilitation may follow major injuries.
