Varicose veins can cause aching, swelling and skin changes. Modern treatments are minimally invasive and often done as day cases.

Treatment options
Options include compression stockings, endovenous laser or radiofrequency ablation, foam sclerotherapy and surgery.
Before and after treatment
A Doppler ultrasound maps the veins. After treatment, you will wear compression stockings and walk regularly.
Risks
Risks include bruising, skin discolouration, nerve irritation, blood clots and veins returning.
