Flu affects
thousands of people every year in Pakistan. It usually peaks in
January/February and tapers in March. Here are the tips to help prevent flu and
cold.
1. Avoid close contact
Avoid
close contact with people who have flu or sick. When you are sick, distance yourself
from others to protect them from getting sick too.
2. Wash your hands
Use
soap or hand sanitizer to stay protected from germs.
3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth
Germs are often spread when a
person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his
or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
4. Exercise to boost the immune system
Exercise such as brisk walking
or running can boost the immune system which likely reduces the risk of getting
flu.
5. Eat and sleep well
Eating healthy and sleeping
well keeps strengthens your immune system and better able to withstand
infection. Eat plenty of vegetables and fruits that offer antioxidants. Try to
get 7-8 hours of sleep every night.
6. Get the flu vaccine
Vaccines are the best way to
prevent the flu. Get the flu vaccine every year with the consultation of
general physician or medical specialist. Flu viruses are constantly changing,
and new vaccines are developed each year to protect against new strains.
