Maj. Gen. Prof. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed (Retd)
Renowned General and Laparoscopic Surgeon Dr. Maqbool Ahmed joins Kulsum International Hospital. He has served in Pakistan Army on senior ranks including Professor of Surgery – Army Medical College, Director General (General Surgery), Pakistan Army and Head of General Surgery – Military Hospital and Combined Military Hospital (Rawalpindi). He was also deputed on UN Pakistan Medical Mission to Somalia. He has extensive experience in General and Laparoscopic Surgery specifically Redo Surgery and complicated cases. He is of the view that general surgery is on the “cutting edge” because it continues to reinvent itself to the benefit of the patient. According to him, due to accessibility of high-tech instrumentation and advanced technology, procedures are now replaced with minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques that often reduce pain, accelerate recuperation and reduce cost without sacrificing good outcomes. We choose the procedures we feel most comfortable with to provide services for our patients, he adds. Dr. Maqbool Ahmed is a valuable addition to KIH.
Brig. (R) Dr. Nadir Ali
One of the well-known Hematologists of the region Dr. Nadir Ali joins Kulsum International Hospital. He completed his MBBS in 1983 from Liaquat National Hospital & Medical College – Karachi, MCPS (Hematology) in 1999 and Ph. D (Hematology) in 2009. He served Pakistan Army for more than 3 decades as a consultant Hematologist in different hospitals. His last two postings were at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Rawalpindi and Combined Military Hospital, Peshawar. Dr. Nadir’s contribution towards academia is commendable. He has 46 national and international research papers on his credit with presentation in 18 national and international conferences. He is also a chapter writer of 3 text books. More than 71 trainees in Ph. D, M. Phil and FCPS are the beneficiaries of Dr. Nadir’s teaching. Keeping in account his contribution towards hematology, he is selected as a life time member of Pakistan Society of Hematology.
Dr. Beena Mamoon
Dr. Beena Mamoon has joined Kulsum International Hospital as Consultant Psychiatrist. She is She started her specialization from Khyber Medical Teaching Hospital, Peshawar, Pakistan. For advance training, she went to UK and has worked in various disciplines of psychiatry i.e. adult, old age, child and adolescent as well as drugs & alcohol addictions. She is Diplomat of Clinical Psychiatry from Ireland and did her clinical fellowship from UK. She is committed to develop Psychiatry Services at KIH.

Dr. Miraj Us Siraj
Dr. Miraj Us Siraj is a senior consultant Neurosurgeon. He graduated from Rawalpindi Medical College in 1987 and attained fellowship from Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Glasgow in 1995. He also received Neurosurgery trainings from different hospitals of United Kingdom. He served in different institutions of United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan at senior positions. Currently, he is a Professor of Neurosurgery at Yusra Medical and Dental College, Islamabad.
Dr. Hamid Zeb Khan
Dr. Hamid Zeb Khan is a consultant with decades of experience in dermatology. He completed his MBBS from Nishtar Medical College in 1973. Afterwards he did DTM&H (Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene) from Conjoint Board of Royal College of Physicians & Royal College of Surgeons in 1976 and Masters in Clinical Medicine from University of London in 1978 and D – Dermatology from St. John’s Hospital for Diseases of Skin (London).
Dr. Shahab Saidullah
Dr. Shahab Saidullah is a consultant Cardiologist with experience in Cardiac Electronic Devices and Arrhythmia treatment. He is MBBS (Gold Medalist), FCPS Cardiology, Fellow in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology and Member of Pakistan Heart Rhythm Society. He is managing the Device and Arrhythmic Clinic at KIH to make it center of excellence.
Dr. Huma Saifullah Khan
Dr. Huma Saifullah (FCPS Histopathology) joins Kulsum International Hospital as a consultant Histopathologist. Histopathology department majorly covers Gynaecological and Non-Gynaecological Cytology reporting, Fine Needle Aspiration and Immunohistochemistry.
The global epidemic of tuberculosis affects nearly 9 million annually, out of which nearly 3 million do not receive adequate medical assistance. Kulsum International Hospital observed World TB Day to raise awareness of this dire problem with the theme “Live life to the Fullest”. On this day, Dr. Shazli Manzoor (Pulmonologist, Intensivist & Medical Director KIH) spoke about the prevention and treatment of this contagious disease. TB is the 7th biggest life taking disease in Pakistan and if appropriate steps are not taken, this will get 4th position, he added. He also appreciated the initiatives and efforts of National TB Control Program to eradicate this fatal disease.
Breast Cancer awareness workshop was conducted by Dr. Shaukat Durrani (Consultant – Oncoplastic Breast Reconstruction Surgeon) at Kulsum International Hospital on March 26th, 2016. Message of the day was “Early Detection is the best protection”. An interactive session was arranged to teach female staff on how to perform self-breast examination. Dr. Shaukat highlighted the importance of early detection of breast cancer which could save thousands of lives. According to him, Pakistan has the highest incidence of breast cancer in Asia where 40,000 women die each year and out of those 70% are presented with advance stage. Treatment of breast cancer is very costly.
At workplace, anxiety and depression may negatively affects the task performance, thinking process, emotions, work relationships and importantly physical health. KIH considers its every employee an asset. A workshop with the theme “Physical manifestations of anxiety and depression- A challenge for healthcare professionals” was organized for KIH employees by Dr. Nadeem Rehman (Consultant Gastroenterology, KIH) and Dr. Shakil Malik (Senior Clinical Director & Consultant Psychiatrist, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation & Teaching Trust Senior; Lecturer King’s College London). Objective of this session was to create awareness about the prevalence and manifestation of anxiety and depression. It will be followed by a series of workshops with the aim to develop coping strategies and prevent burnout in health care professionals.
Dr. Nadeem Rehman
Dr. Nadeem Rehman is a consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist who has been trained in UK (London). He is an Interventional Gastroenterologist belonging to the elite group of UK endoscopists who have specialist accreditation to perform bowel cancer screening. He has wide range of experience of treating complex Hepatitis including Liver Transplant assessment and treatment of inflammatory bowel disease with conventional and biologic treatments. He is also establishing multidisciplinary services to treat inflammatory bowel disease and bariatric conditions to make KIH a centre of excellence.
Dr. Mamoon Qadir
Dr. Mamoon Qadir has recently joined Kulsum International Hospital as a Consultant Cardiologist (Interventional and Advance Pacing). He is young yet experienced professional with impressive portfolio. He is a Gold Medalist of Medicine (MBBS), MCPS, MRCP (UK) and MRCPS (Glasgow). He completed his Interventional Cardiology (Angioplasty, PCI etc.) Fellowship from UK. In addition to this, recently he attained BHRS Accreditation in Pacemakers and Devices (i.e. DDDR, ICD, CRT, CRTD & Pacemaker Troubleshooting) from Birmingham, UK. He is committed to take over Cardiology Services of KIH to a next level and participating actively in our primary Angioplasty services.
Dr. Dur-e-Shehwar Sikandar
Dr. Dur-e-Shehwar Sikandar is a consultant Dermatologist and Cosmetologist. She is MCPS and did her MD from PIMS (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences). She has also done training of Aesthetics from American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine (USA). In addition to the treatment of diseases of skin, hair and nail; she does her aesthetic practice in Botox, filters, lasers, chemical peels, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for hair loss, whitening therapies and anti-aging therapies.
Dr. Yasmin Naqvi
Dr. Yasmin Naqvi is a certified Speech Language Pathologist and Therapist. She has an experience of 13 years in handling children with learning disabilities including Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, Stammering, Stuttering and Impaired Speech. With an MS in Speech Language Pathology, she provides competent consultancy to Children with learning disabilities, hearing impairment, adults with speech language disorders, stroke patients with swallowing difficulties and compromised speech as well.
